Ground breaking/Foundation Laying Ceremony of CLC in Ikot Abasi LGA, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on 12th August, 2022
The provisions of section (2) subsection (12) of NMEC enabling law on the establishment of Centres for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education from time to time gives a legal ground for the Commission to put in place all forms of approach and methodology as it relates to the provision of adult and non-formal education in the country, especially to its clientele that abound at the grass root level.
It is on this premise that the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is supporting the Commission with funds for the construction of a Model Community Learning Centre in Ikiot Ababsi of Ikot Abasi LGA of Akwa Ibom State.
The proposed (CLC) would serve as local educational institution outside the formal education system, set up for villages and rural areas and would be managed by the villagers to provide various learning opportunities for community development and improvement of the villagers’ lives. It is expected that the centres would be self-sustaining and multi-purpose so as to provide access to a wide range of learning, skills development and cultural activities to address the needs of the out of school children as well as rural people
Participants at the ground breaking/foundation laying of the CLC included the Community heads and members of Ikot Abasi Community, APD Consultant, Senistiq Ltd Contractor, Executive Secretary, Management and Staff of NMEC.
